Work to improve the health system is not for the faint-hearted. It requires courage, energy and patience, and a determination to ensure people get the best, safest care possible.
We’d like to thank Minister Thomas for her leadership and advocacy to effect change across the health system. We will miss her unwavering commitment to better health for everyone wish her well in her life after politics.
Women’s Health Victoria has worked closely with Victoria’s retiring Minister for Health, Mary‑Anne Thomas, since her appointment in June 2022, and we are grateful for her strong leadership and respectful, productive engagement with the women’s health sector.
Listening to the needs of the community has been a hallmark of our work with Minister Thomas. She provided leadership for women across Victoria to come forward and share their experiences of pain through the nation-leading 2025 Inquiry into Women’s Pain, and again this year in response to allegations that women were subject to unnecessary surgery.
During her tenure, Victorians have welcomed new clinics dedicated to women’s health – including a mobile clinic and virtual clinic – all of which have made it easier for women to have timely access to appropriate, affordable health care.
At a time where women’s rights to bodily autonomy are under threat globally, Minister Thomas’ strong advocacy for reproductive rights has been critical. We are grateful for her dedicated support of 1800 My Options – Women’s Health Victoria’s sexual and reproductive health service.
Women’s Health Victoria looks forward to working with the incoming Minister for Health and to continue to build on our vision for a health system that is inclusive, equal and fair.
