If you’ve received treatment for cancer in Victoria, we want to hear from you!
The Gender Equity in Cancer Care project will provide a gender lens to the Victorian Government’s Cancer Plan 2024-2028 by investigating how gender impacts women and gender diverse people’s experiences of cancer care in Victoria, particularly for those in rural and regional areas.
This information will then be used to identify ways to improve the cancer care system, and provide tools and information for healthcare professionals to embed better practice.
Women’s Health Victoria has partnered with experts in the field to build the capacity of healthcare professionals to provide the best person-centred care for people living with cancer, based on the evidence.
Our major project partners include the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, The Royal Women’s Hospital, Transgender Victoria, Barwon South West Regional Integrated Cancer Service (BSWRICS) and Gippsland Regional Integrated Cancer Service (GRICS).
We have also established an advisory group to guide this work. The group includes people with lived and living experience of cancer, and representatives from the Victorian cancer, women’s health and trans and gender diverse health sectors.
Funded by the Victorian Government, the Gender Equity in Cancer Care project will improve people’s lives by understanding gendered experiences of cancer care and building the capacity of the workforce to provide gender-responsive care.
How can I get involved?

You can take part in this research until mid-December 2025.
There are two groups we’d like to hear from:
Lived experience: Women (cis and trans), trans men, non-binary and gender diverse people who are aged 18 years and over, who have or have had a cancer diagnosis, and received cancer care in Victoria.
How you can share your perspective:
- complete a short survey: the survey is voluntary and confidential and will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
- participate in an interview: you can let us know if you are interested in taking part in a 1-hour online interview about your experiences. You don’t have to speak to us if you don’t want to.
You can take part in both, or just the survey or interview.

Healthcare professionals: Healthcare professionals in Victoria with experience providing cancer care to women (cis and trans), trans men, non-binary and/or gender diverse people.
How you can share your perspective:
- complete a short survey: the survey is voluntary and confidential and will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete
- participate in a small Focus Group with healthcare professionals, to be held in early December You can take part in both, or just the survey or focus group.
